Enactus x Bulwell Academy Social Impact Sprint
Over 75 Year 10 students at Bulwell Academy swapped the traditional work experience model for something a little different: a high-paced Social Impact Sprint designed to immerse them in the world of work while tackling real challenges facing their communities.
Throughout the day, students worked in teams, taking on roles such as Project Managers, Financial Directors and Creative Leads. Together, they researched local issues, developed sustainable social business ideas, and presented their solutions at the Bulwell Project Fair to a panel of school leaders.
Designed to mirror a modern workplace, the sprint gave students first-hand experience of working to tight deadlines, collaborating in professional teams, solving problems creatively, and pitching ideas with confidence. By simulating a modern corporate environment, students had the opportunity to build valuable workplace skills, and experience what it means to lead with purpose.
The impact was clear. Following the sprint:
88% of students said they now have a better practical understanding of the world of work.
78% reported feeling more motivated about future college, university or employment opportunities.
95% said they would like to take part in more challenges like this in the future.
Beyond developing employability skills, the sprint encouraged students to see themselves as changemakers, using design thinking to address social challenges and create positive impact in their communities. This is what was some of our students had to say about their experience through the day:
“I didn’t realise how well I could handle a high-pressure, timed environment until I was put to the test, and it showed me just what I’m capable of! "
