Empowering Youth: NextGenLeaders Nominated for Community Organisation of the Year
We are excited to share that our Schools Programme NextGenLeaders has been nominated for Community Organisation/Project of the Year by the Leeds Compassionate City Awards! We are so grateful for this nomination, recognising our programme dedicated to cultivating a generation of young changemakers through socially aware project-based learning.
For the last 9 years, the Leeds Compassionate City Awards (Leeds City Council) have received hundreds of nominations from those who have made a difference to their local communities. The Community Organisation/Project of the Year award goes to those organisations or projects committed to supporting people through difficult times and have made a demonstrable impact on the lives of local people. This year’s awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 6th November, where we’ll be looking forward to hearing from other organisations and projects which aim to improve the lives of people in their communities.
At Enactus UK & Ireland, we are committed to supporting the next generation to transform their ideas into action. Young people face limited volunteering opportunities, have a lack of opportunity and low confidence in their ability to make a difference.
Here’s what our programmes’ impact looks like in that context:
✅90% of students reported feeling more confident by the end of the year.
✅100% of participating schools observed a significant improvement in their students’ self-esteem and relationships.
Through our NextGenLeaders programme, hundreds of changemakers have been able to experience the development of their own ideas into projects that tackle issues ranging from climate change to homelessness.
This success was achieved by our work across 14 schools last academic year in the Yorkshire and the Humber area, with projects reaching 18 social mobility cold spots across the region.
A big thank you to York St. John University and of course, our amazing teachers and support staff, who continuously helps us develop the programme and create the next generation of responsible leaders.
